Task Packages
A task package consists of a task file bundled with specific settings for that software. The task package is loaded onto a device, acting as a vehicle for loading the software onto a device.
From the View Task Packages list, you can click on a task package name to view the properties for the task package. TaskBuilder tasks and VoiceArtisan tasks have slightly different fields.
VoiceArtisan Task Packages
Task
Name of the voice application used by the task package.
Task Type
Type of the voice application file, VoiceArtisan or TaskBuilder.
Task Package Name
Name of the task package.
Spoken Name
Name for the task package as spoken by the device.
Description
Description of the task package.
Task Format
Version of the voice application format.
Task Revision
Version number of the voice application created by the application developer.
Version Information
Version information supplied by the voice application.
Task Settings Tab
The fields and associated values that show on the Task Settings tab vary, according to the .vad file chosen for the task package.
Phonetic Sub. Tab
Pronunciation and display strings associated with the voice applications in the task package.
Device Settings Tab
Wired Training Device
- Enabled: The device's red port is configured to use a wired training device.
- Disabled: The device's red port is not configured to use a wired training device.
Poweroff Timeout (min): Number of minutes that a device should stay asleep before automatically powering itself off.
Restart Task in Charger
- Enabled: When the device is put into the charger, the task starts over from the beginning.
- Disabled: The task remains at the point where it was when the device was put into the charger.
No Talk Over Priority Prompt
- Enabled: Operators must wait until the end of priority prompts before the device accepts spoken input.
- Disabled: Operators can speak over priority prompts, and the device accepts the command.
Speech Wait: Number of seconds that a device waits after the operator has not spoken before the device goes to sleep.
Advanced Settings: See Configuration Parameters for more information.
- Enter advanced settings as setting=value with one setting per line.
- Any settings entered in the Advanced Settings text box take precedence over any values set.
- Special characters are generally not supported. See Task Package - Advanced Settings Typefor more information.
Embedded Training Tab
Custom prompts for words that are frequently used in combination associated with the voice applications in the task package.
TaskBuilder Task Packages
Task
Name of the task used by the task package.
Task Type
Type of the voice application file, VoiceArtisan or TaskBuilder.
Task Package Name
Name of the task package.
Spoken Name
Name for the task package as it is spoken by the device.

Description of the task package.
Common Settings
Device Behavior
Wired Training Device
- Enabled: The device red port is configured to use a wired training device.
- Disabled: The device red port is not configured to use a wired training device.

Task Processing
Ideal Dot Wait Timer
- Enabled: The ideal timer evaluates
.wait
conditions every 0.1 seconds. - Disabled: The legacy timer evaluates
.wait
conditions every 0.5 seconds.
Restart Task in Charger
- Enabled: When the device is put into the charger, the task starts over from the beginning.
- Disabled: The task remains at the point that it was when the device was put into the charger.
Speech Wait: Number of seconds that a device waits after the operator has not spoken before the device goes to sleep.
ODR Processing
ODR Confirmation Byte
- None: The device does not wait for confirmation that the host application received the Output Data Record.
- Any: The device accepts any byte sent from the host application as confirmation that it received the ODR.
- Specify: The host application must send the byte that you specify in the field to the right as confirmation that it has received the ODR from the device.
ODR Flash Data Persistence
- Enabled: ODRs are stored in the device's flash memory before they are sent to the host application.
- Disabled: ODRs are sent directly from memory and not stored in the device.
