Security Salt

Use this feature for enhanced security by encrypting plain text keys used in device profiles with hash/salt. This option is only available to the Administrator role.

Once the encrypted key is created, any existing device profiles must be recreated with the encrypted key. Existing device profiles with plain text keys no longer work.
If the encrypted key is changed, device profiles using the previous encrypted key no longer work.

To use the encryption feature:

  1. Enter the salt value in the Input Salt text box.
  2. Click the Save Changes button. The screen updates and displays the Encrypt Key fields.
  3. Enter the plain text key in the Input Key text box.
  4. Click the Save Changes button again.
  5. The Encrypted Key text box now displays the newly created encrypted key. Copy this encrypted key to use in device profiles.

After a profile is created using these encrypted keys, the user can export a .vrg file and that file contains the encrypted SSID and WEP/WPA/WPA2 keys.

The encrypted .vrg file can also be imported back into VoiceConsole to create a new device profile.
