Differences in Task Type Behavior Between VoiceCatalyst and VoiceClient
A700x and VoiceCatalyst/VoiceClient Applications
- The A700x uses a newer version of Python that may require VAD updates in some cases.
- VoiceClient tasks that use FTP must be updated because the A700x does not support FTP.
Please refer to the VoiceCatalyst 4.x release notes for details.
Control Words
These control words are only available when using a VoiceArtisan-created task. They are available through the button menu, otherwise.
- Report Problem
- Battery Status
Backup is only available when using a TaskBuilder task.
Hands-Free/Programmatic Scanning with Talkman A730/A730x
Only VoiceArtisan-created tasks support the ability to speak a control word or programmatically cause the Talkman A730/A730x to scan.
If you are running a TaskBuilder task, you must physically press the scan button on the Talkman A730/A730x.
Record and Playback
You can only include 2000 recorded prompts in a TaskBuilder task. Using a VoiceArtisan task on devices running WinCE 6.0 or higher, you have 15MB of memory available and can include 32,000 prompts.
Templates
You can use .bt1 or .bt2 templates when using a TaskBuilder task. VoiceArtisan tasks can only use .bt2 or higher templates.
Retraining a Word
When using a TaskBuilder task, you will be prompted to do a noise sample before you select the words to retrain. With a VoiceArtisan task, you will be prompted for a noise sample after you select the words to retrain.
With TaskBuilder, you cannot change the volume while retraining a word.
With VoiceArtisan, you can use the buttons to change the volume.
Play/Pause to Exit Menu
When running a TaskBuilder task, if you press the Play/Pause button to exit a menu, the device speaks “Good night”. When running a VoiceArtisan task, the device speaks “Operation canceled. Good night.”
Pressing Buttons During Operator Load
When running a TaskBuilder task, if you press buttons while the operator is loading, the button presses are ignored. When running a VoiceArtisan task, they are queued and executed when the load is complete.
Pulling the Battery With Operator and Task Loaded
If you start a task—and an operator and task are already loaded—a TaskBuilder task and a VoiceArtisan task behave differently. With TaskBuilder tasks, the device speaks:
- “Loading task. Task load complete.”
- “Loading operator. Current operator is operatorname.”
- “Good night.”
With a VoiceArtisan task, the device speaks “Current operator is operatorname” and the noise sample procedure begins.
Selecting Done Before Digits in Operator Load By Number
With a TaskBuilder task, the device says, “No operator exists for operator number point. Select next digit. 0.”
With a VoiceArtisan task, the device says, “Press the plus and minus buttons to enter operator number. Press the operator button to select each digit. Press the Play/Pause button to cancel. 0.”
Powering Up a Device with Auto Voice Load Enabled
If you power up a device that already has an operator and voice loaded (operator 1) and a different operator and voice are loaded (operator 2) while the device is asleep:
If running a TaskBuilder task, when powering up, the device speaks:
- “Current operator is operator 1. Loading task.” in operator 2’s voice.
- If a task is also loaded, the device will speak in operator 2’s voice, “Loading task. Task load complete. Loading operator. Current operator is operator 2. N words not trained (if applicable). Please wait.”
- Device will then beep until voice load completes.
- Device will speak, “Current task is (if applicable due to language change). Good night.” in the new voice once the load is completed.
If running a VoiceArtisan task, when powering up, the device speaks:
“Current operator is operator 1. Please keep quiet for a few seconds” in operator 1’s voice.
If a task is also loaded, the device will speak in operator 2’s voice “Loading operator. Loading Task. Task Load complete.”
Association of Last Task Run with Operator
If running a TaskBuilder task, the last task run associates with the operator after the operator performed a noise sample.
If running a VoiceArtisan task, the last task run associates with the operator before the noise sample.
Wireless Headset Bluetooth Pairings
With TaskBuilder tasks, you can enter Bluetooth configuration parameters at any level
(for example, "HeadsetBt_address"="BTADDR"
), and they take effect.
With VoiceArtisan tasks, you can only perform single and bulk pairings of SRX headsets from VoiceConsole and manual pairings with the device.
Test Print Menu Item
The Test Print menu item for testing network printers is only available when running TaskBuilder tasks.
Webservers
With a TaskBuilder task, you can only use a display via the Mongoose webserver. With VoiceArtisan tasks, you can use either a Mongoose or a Python webserver.
