About Voice Modules

The Voice Module is the Honeywell distribution package of what is commonly known as a text to speech (TTS) engine. It is the spoken voice that the worker hears and uses to interact with the system.

The Voice Module converts the text information coming from the Voice Application to audible commands for the operator to hear. There are a number of TTS converters that speak a programmed word to the operator. The Voice implementers often find it a challenge to choose the right Voice Module for their region and workflow.

Among the questions you should ask yourself when deciding on a voice are:

  • What device is being used?
  • Should we use a human-like voice or a robotic voice?
  • Does using a male versus female voice affect the productivity of a worker?
  • Which language contains which types of voices?
  • What is the advantage of using one voice over the other for a particular workflow?
  • Which Voice Module should be avoided for which workflow?
