Other Non-Recognition Issues

Additionally you should be aware of some issues unrelated to recognition. Sometimes users new to voice may have problems that are reported as recognition complaints. Users new to voice may have the following concerns:

  • Anti-automation/pro-labor sentiment and the feeling that the system will cost jobs
  • Other system performance problems, such as radio latency
  • Usability issues with the application
  • Workers that just don’t like to talk
  • Workers that don’t like the voice in their ear
  • Workers that feel the product "turns them into a robot"

Some of these situations must be handled delicately. The best approach is often to work on the recognition issues concurrently with the other issues workers are having with the voice system. Nonetheless, it's important to be aware of underlying or unrelated issues that need to be resolved, because complaints of recognition issues may not subside until the other issues are resolved.

User expectations often need to be managed. No speech recognition system is perfect, and some amount of repeating is normal, just as with human to human communication.
