Creating and Editing Roles

For each role grant access to specific features by checking them. The role will not have access to perform any unchecked feature. If you granting the ability to perform an action on a page, also grant the ability to view that page.

If adding a new role or change a role's privileges in a clustered implementation, reboot all the application servers in the cluster for that information to be updated in all the systems.

  1. Under Navigation, click Roles.
  2. Under Role Actions, select Create new role.

  3. Enter the name and description for each role. The name must be unique and cannot be edited after a role is saved.
  4. Click Create role

Keep the following in mind when creating or editing a role:

  • If you have a question about a particular feature, refer to the help topic for that feature.
  • If you grant the ability to perform an action on a page (such as, creating a break type on the Break Types page), you must also grant the ability to view that page. For example, you would have to check both View Break Types and Create Break Type to grant a particular role the ability to create a break type.

If you add a new role or change a role's privileges in a clustered implementation, you must reboot all the application servers in the cluster for that information to be updated in all the systems.
